Monday Musings…

This is the fifth week I’ve posted my Monday Musings and I cannot believe how quickly the weeks are going by! First off, I had a really fantastic weekend as myself and thousands of other fans went to the 02 to see Queen B perform her Mrs Carter World Tour. Having always been a fan of hers, I was expecting something special, but nothing really prepared me for how incredible the show actually was. Beyoncé is one of the most amazing performers I have ever seen in concert. The show lasted for over two hours and with 25 songs, over 10 (stunning) designer costume changes, those dance routines (!!), an utterly amazing set and that iconic voice of hers, I was just blown away. We went on the Saturday night and I wished I was seeing her again the next night! We were treated to all the classics and more (she sang an intriguing version of “If I Were A Boy,” including a string accompaniment of The Verve’s “Bittersweet Symphony”), and got to hear in full, her newest song “Grown Woman” from the latest Pepsi ads and she even went out to the crowds. In short: I heart you Beyoncé. If you didn’t think too much of here before the concert (eh, what’s wrong with you??!), you’ll have come out of the show a fan for life. Did anyone else go? What did you think?

Then on Sunday, I went to see the newest film to the Star Trek franchise; Star Trek: Into Darkness, and I have to say I was mightily impressed. I’m a huge Science Fiction fan to begin with (I love all the sci fi efforts from James Cameron and Ridley Scott in particular; they are masters of cinema). The sequel to the modernised movies triumphed over the original (which was a really solid first effort to begin with), in many ways. This time around, director JJ Abrams gives us a more complex plot, plenty of suspenseful surprises, a few very witty lines (from the scene stealing Simon Pegg) with excellent performances from Zachary Quinto (he is a brilliant Captain Spock) and a menacing Benedict Cumberbatch (a very underrated actor; I’d love to see him in juicer roles), and very nice subtle nods to the cult Star Trek series and older films, this one was so enjoyable I’d see it a second time! Fans will surely love it, and those that aren’t into anything Trek-y don’t need to worry as you’ll be able to keep up regardless. Is anyone else a fellow Sci-fi/Star Trek fan?

The 2013 Met Gala Ball took place last week and I was excited to see the fashion choices. The annual fête, which formally kicks off the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s yearly Costume Institute exhibit, always brings in a bevy of style stars, from models to designers to Hollywood’s A-list, and this year was no exception.  Last year, celebs shined in metallic ensembles, each giving a unique nod to Elsa Schiaparelli and Miuccia Prada. This year, things were quite different. Well, with a theme like “Punk: Chaos to Couture,” they were bound to be! But despite the quite outlandish theme, most of the celebs opted for safer choices (Michelle Williams and Emma Watson, I’m looking at you), while the standouts for me were (unusually) Anne Hathaway who rocked new platinum blonde locks in a gorgeous sheer black Valentino, and Model Cara Delevingne in her rocker punk custom Burberry gown (see all the fashion hits and misses here). Personally, I preferred last years gowns, but there were some interesting choices and it was a great night for fashion. Did you have a favorite look?

Finally, I woke up to a lovely surprise this morning, when the amazing Irish beauty blogger Make Up Monster told me I won her recent May Day Madness competition!! Woo Hoo! This is probably the first time I’ve ever actually won anything ever and I’m hugely excited, as you can see from the picture above (taken from Make Up Monster’s website), that the goodies are amazing! I’m dying to try them out and review them. Be sure to check out the fabulous beauty that is (and her twitter account) for all the latest beauty must haves; it’s a beautiful site. I’ll be reviewing the goodies in the next week or two so watch this space!

That’s it gang, another Monday Musings finished. Please do post your thoughts in the comments section!
