New Video: Marina and the Diamonds – State of Dreaming

Wedding Bells3

As many of you know, I completely love Marina and the Diamonds. Her music, her style, her amazing voice — she is just the complete package. The talented Welsh songstress took to twitter on Valentine’s Day to give us a new track E.V.O.L (see me talk all about that one here), and now we’ve been given another treat in the form of her new video for her latest single: ‘State of Dreaming.‘ Fully entrenched in the fame-sick Electra Heart alter ego from her album of the same name, she laments in operatic fashion that: “My life is a play” (among other things).

She, once again, is really on form and continues her ‘Electra Heart’ saga with this majestic new video. In part 9 of the series, the ‘State of Dreaming’ visual sees the  singer-songwriter perform in black and white on a simple backdrop of pillars and drapes.  As the track gains momentum Marina becomes more animated, and the clip shifts to colour before returning to its original monochromatic look. It’s a simple concept and video, and the backdrop is quite reminiscent of an abandoned movie set (though it is in fact the same set featured in her ‘Wedding Bells‘ short from last December, and her whole look is the same too),  but I think it really works for the track, and Marina looks amazing (I love her as a brunette).

Co-written by Marina, ‘State of Dreaming’ is produced by Rick Nowels and Devrim Karaoglu, and is taken off her sophomore album ‘Electra Heart’. Meanwhile, the 27 year-old artist has revealed she’s already busy writing songs for her third studio album. Yipee!

Watch the stirring ballad’s accompanying video below and see Marina sing about her State of Dreaming while rocking that red veil and matching lipstick. I want!
