Cult Product Review: Clarins Beauty Flash Balm

I know I’ve been heavy on the beauty/product reviews lately, but it’s what people are looking at, so I thought a few more couldn’t hurt! 😉 I had written about this gem for the gals over on not long ago, but decided to post it here as this is a ‘must own’ product for me. I know it’s a big statement to call something a cult product, but I’m definitely not over exaggerating on this one. Clarins Beauty Flash Balm has been around for over thirty years and there’s a good reason it wins awards year after year. It’s on the market as a radiance booster, but for me it ticks all the boxes as one of the best primers out there; it’s amazing!

I used to have a love/hate relationship with primers (and I have to use one or my foundation wouldn’t last the day), until I used Clarins Beauty Flash Balm.  I adore Clarins skincare products: I think they’re incredibly gentle on the skin thanks to all the natural ingredients that go into them, they smell absolutely gorgeous too. I found that the main problem with the stack of other primers that I had tried and tested before was that they weighed my skin down, making my combination skin go extra oily and blocked my pores, causing me to break out.  I had none of these problems with Beauty Flash Balm however: it behaved exactly as it promised it would.

This product really does brighten, tighten and is suitable for all skin types.  Olive and Witch Hazel extracts help smooth the skin’s surface, ideally prepping the skin for your base application and helping foundation stay put for hours.  Beauty Flash Balm really is a radiance booster: after using it for just over a week, my skin looked much brighter in the mornings.  I decided to just use it under my make up without a moisturiser too as it magically removed the dry patches that I’m prone to (you can use it as a mask too for an extra boost, but I think it’s to expensive and a waste of the product to be doing this).

The Trick Is In The Application

I found a lot of people said that they couldn’t see what the big deal was about this one, and that’s probably because they’re not getting the application correct. If it’s not applied the right way, you won’t see the result (I know this because it took me a few goes to get it correct). The secret to the success is all in how to apply it to your skin:

  • After your skin is prepped and ready to go, you just need to apply a thin layer to your face – do not rub it in completely as you would your moisturiser because it’s supposed to sit on the skin, rather than be completely rubbed in.
  • This bit is important: you must have your foundation ready to put on the second the Flash Balm is on; if the balm disappears off your face it won’t do its job correctly.
  • Finally, as soon as the layer is on, put your foundation on right away as normal.

It may take a couple of goes to get the application right, but once you do you’ll be flying.

The big issue I have with this is that brilliant as it is, it’s expensive. I paid €35 for mine and even though it will last weeks given the small amount you need to use each day, I’d advise you to get a sample first to make sure you like it. There’s a reason Beauty Flash Balm is a cult product and loved by Madonna, Demi Moore, Kylie Minogue, Reese Witherspoon, Kate Moss, Cindy Crawford and tons more celebs – it’s fantastic and for me an absolute beauty must have.

Have you used and loved Beauty Flash Balm? Or have you found it didn’t do the job? Tell all in the comments section!

  1. Great applications tips, I’ve never actually used this but I’ve heard SO much hype!

  2. Thanks a mill, I’m going to say that you should definitely give it a go if you can. 😉 The secret to its working success is all in the application. Once I got the hang of that, I never looked back.
