Oscar Fashion 2013: Who Rocked That Red Carpet

Oscar polished himself off for his 85th outing at the Academy Awards 2013. The award show which was based on a musical theme (check out the musical tribute section, featuring the amazing cast of Les Mis among others!), saw Family Guy’s Seth MacFarlane take the Oscar hosting reins and do a pretty darn good job. While serious congratulations are due to this years winners (I’ll be chatting about this in a separate post later this week), this one is to analyse this years fashion hits (and the few misses!) of the night.

All in all this year, I was pleasantly surprised by the beautiful fashion that we saw work its way down the red carpet this time around. Quite often, after all the hype of award season, I’m disappointed on the biggest award night of the year, but it was one of the best years for Oscar fashion. We were treated to incredible dresses, jewelry, striking colours, true Hollywood glamour, lots of Haute Couture and flawless hair and makeup.  What more could we have asked for?!

My favourite dresses swished down the red carpet very early on. My dress of the evening was worn by the truly gorgeous Amanda Syfried. She rocked a beautiful custom Alexander McQueen gown, Roger Vivier shoes, and Lorraine Schwartz jewels. I adore Alexander McQueen and she just looked incredible. Her makeup and hair were also stunning, the purple shadowed eyes really complimented the whole look and I loved the up do.

Another stunner was D’Jango Unchained’s Kerry Washington: The 36-year-old actress looked amazing in a coral  Miu Miu dress, Christian Louboutin shoes, a Prada bag, Chopard earrings, and a Fred Leighton ring. She is so incredibly beautiful and it was great to see such a vivid colour on the carpet.

One of my favourite pale faced actresses is the brilliant Jessica Chastain. Her nude, custom Armani Prive dress was the perfect ode to true Hollywood Glamour. It was stunning on her and though I was skeptical about the colour against her fair skin, the red lipstick ensured that she didn’t look washed out.. She completed the look with loose, windswept hair, Christian Louboutin heels, and Harry Winston jewels.

Avatar actress Zoe Saldana gets another notable mention; she looked so gorgeous. Wearing a beautiful Alexis Mabille Couture dress (it looked incredible against her skin tone), Neil Lane jewelry, Roger Vivier shoes, and a Salvatore Ferragamo clutch. Reese Witherspoon also looked extremely glamourous in a stunning blue Louis Vuitton gown and she had the best side swept hair do of the evening.

Oscars 3

I also loved Naomi Watts‘ Armani Prive dress. She teamed it with Jimmy Choo shoes, a Roger Vivier bag, and Neil Lane jewels. I’m not usually a Jennifer Lawrence fashion fan, but on this occasion, I thought her Dior Haute Couture dress was perfect for the Oscars, and I loved the detail of the necklace. Amy Adams’ grey Oscar de la Renta gown and Moa jewelry were also perfect.

Dresses I didn’t warm to at all were worn by Anne Hathaway (though I loved the detail at the back), Halle Berry and much to my devastation, Jennifer Aniston but other than that I loved the majority of the gowns, beauty and hair styles. So, it’s all over for another year, folks! What did everyone think of this years Oscar Red Carpet gowns? Tell me your thoughts in the comments section!
